So I kinda love Valentine’s Day….I just always have. I started today off with a healthy heaping of Ruby Snap cookies placed on my breakfast plate by Jordan. Then I read an essay from a past bride on the importance of emotion and allowing ourselves to be real and learn from all our emotions, not just the happy ones. So TRUE. I feel like the past few months have been an exercise in emotional intelligence. They’ve also been an exercise in patience for me. My maternity break is scheduled to end in a month. But I just couldn’t wait any longer to shoot. I’ve been feeling like the inner artist in me is starving so last week I FED that soul and it’s incited in me a whole flurry of emotions and ideas for my photography future. But while I sit and let those ideas swirl for the next little while, I thought today I’d give you a taste of what’s to come. Women. I just can’t get enough of them when it comes to photography. The complexity that they hold is fascinating to me and I am one haha.
Today I want to introduce you to Mandy. Her husband is a gifted tatoo artist and I love the stories their skins tell. They’ve been redoing their home and it’s fabulous. Just last week Mandy sanded and painted a new kitchen table. Every time I’m in her home I’m in awe of the unique decor. It made for the perfect backdrop to capture Mandy with. I know she was nervous to let me photograph her in such a raw way but I am SO grateful for the trust she extended me. What an honor it was to create this book for her. I hope it’s loved by Austin and her two girls for years to come. I plan to rework this album for competition but in the meantime, here’s the version that will be on display in her home, plus some fun I had with double exposures!
From husband to wife, neighbor to neighbor, friend or stranger…Happy Love Day. It’s what makes the world go round!
