Kelsey + Taylor, part two

Photobucket

And now for the reception, held at the beautiful Provo Library. I’d never been in this building, but Utah has some amazing libraries it turns out. As you’ll see, the wedding party surprised Kelsey & Taylor with a high energy dance. The same thing happend at Kelsey’s sister Nicole’s wedding. I suspect it’s now become a tradition. Why mess with a good thing? And speaking of traditions, I can’t wait for the next Nielsen sister’s wedding. (I know Phyllis, it’s still at least THREE years away, but I can still be excited right!?)

Kelsey + Taylor, part one

Photobucket

Every day I’m amazed at how different my two little girls are. And I’m sure time will only serve to solidify that perspective. Sometimes I jump ahead and wonder about their weddings. I can easily see Ella wanting something over the top and Hazel choosing to quietly elope. Either way, I’ll demand that they have a fabulous photographer. But other than that, I think I’ll do my best to let them choose their own style.

This past weekend I had the chance to spend the day with a favorite family of mine. It was so fun to see how Kelsey & Taylor’s wedding differed from Nicole & Glen’s even though the woman behind the whole operation, their amazing mother Phyllis, remained the same. She herself pointed out just how different the two girls’ tastes were, starting with their choice in wedding and bridesmaid dresses. I loved the pop of color Kelsey added to her day with the chosen bridal party attire. And even better than the fun colored dresses was the rockstar crew wearing them. This bridal party did everything I asked and owned it. Even the guys. You can’t beat that.

I’m already designing Kelsey & Taylor’s wedding album and I LOVE how all the details are adding up perfectly. I’m sure I’ll be sharing those spreads with you in the next few weeks, but for now, here’s your first look (unless you’ve already peaked on facebook) at the sunniest, warmest, most perfect day yet this year! Starting with my new favorite ring shot. Man I love how yellow gold makes a diamond pop. And for those of you wondering, I shot the above picture with my 105 macro at f/16.

I loved the below idea: Kelsey wrote a personal message to all her bridesmaids on the bottom of their shoes. How fun is that!

Janett & Karl

Photobucket

I love, love the energy these two have as a couple! They’re always cuddling, smiling, kissing, & in general acting in love. You’d think that would be a given for any engaged couple, but surprisingly it’s not. So it made my job super easy when it came time to photograph their engagements. I basically just followed them around the park as they did what they do best. I can’t wait for their blacktie session where Karl will be unicycling and juggling in a suit. Um ya. I love grooms with mad skills!

Red Door Utah

These pictures will probably seem random, but I thought it’d be fun to share something a little out of the ordinary for my work. I mentioned this previously, but one of my clients is Red Door Utah. They’re a staging company whose work has recently been featured on Spike TV’s Flip Men series. One of the owners, Sarah, contacted me to see if I’d be interested in shooting for their portfolio. I was a bit hesitant to say yes not knowing a thing about staging or what type of images they’d need. But it turns out shooting Red Door’s work is just like shooting details at a wedding. It’s a nice exercise in composition and dealing with available light. These images represent the staging elements of several different houses I’ve shot for them.

March 8, 2012 - 12:08 am Megan - I am a huge fan of your work, always Beautiful! I was wondering how do you make the colors, especially the blues, so bright?
