My little sister is graduating from college this month and I couldn’t be happier! She’s been totally disciplined and excelled in her education, as I know she will do in her career as well. Though she’s not done with school for good–a Master’s degree is in her future–it’s great to celebrate this huge milestone. I had to share our little mini-graduation shoot we did for her announcement. We decided mini was the only way to go if we didn’t want a million great images to choose from (as you know, we get a little carried away when shooting) Laura, your face looks amazing x28. Lol. Just a bit of an inside joke…

The more I learn about this woman, the more I am in awe. She’s in touch with her soul like nobody I know and the way that she shares that with the world for good is truely amazing! I am a huge fan of her downright poetic blog posts and they don’t even need pictures. Now that’s saying something. And though she’s a photographer as well as a whimsical headband designer extrodainer, I think my favorite talent of hers is what she can do with video. It is moving, no pun intended. She recently created a self portrait that I watched for the first time after shooting these. The video deals with the loss of a loved one in her life. And after watching it I wondered if these images really reflect who Jenny is. But then I decided that they are a testament to the strength she has found and her inner beauty. She represents the vision for my Femininity sessions to a T.

A few weekends ago Liz found herself with a free Saturday and the itch to shoot. She’d been wanting to put together a shoot in the snow. So when the snow fell that Friday, she had a vision of what she wanted: a dancer in the snow, kicking up little tufts of powder as she spun around. The only things holding her back: the snow wasn’t really powdery (and had mostly melted by the shoot time) and it was cold–Liz was a little hesitant to subject her model to the outside elements like that.

I personally didn’t know why she was even holding back. I have been on plenty of projects with her and knew her creativity would be able to work with the wet snow. As for the second issue, there have been even more times when I would classify the conditions she was subjecting the model or couple to as torture, so this instance in the snow would just be equal treatment to anyone brave enough to volunteer to step in front of the lens.

Liz put out a Facebook request for a model and the wonderful Kimee responded (well her mom did, it’s great having enthusiastic mom’s that love your work). But Kimee was up for it. They brought down a trunk full (or more) of dresses and costumes and they geared up to give Liz her fix and Kimee some great senior pictures. They all had a great time and Liz was able to try out her new lens and stretch out her creative muscles with control over the shoot just for fun.
